The purpose of studying architecture is to learn how to make physical changes to our surroundings that enhance the quality of the built environment and our experience of life. Within this broad purpose, architectural study and practice include the tasks of providing shelter and environmental protection, providing appropriate settings for human activities, and creating forms that are aesthetically pleasing and supportive of social well-being in the community and society. Architecture faculty members believe that the interdisciplinary cooperation of environmentally concerned fields is important to the study of architecture and continually seek new ways to learn from each other. Graduates of our degree programs are well regarded and sought after by firms in the country, especially Chandigarh, one of the most environmentally progressive cities in the country as well as by offices nationwide. This course is an innovative and flexible professional degree. Through a non-sequential structure, which allows students to select from a range of core and elective subjects, it gives students choices regarding their professional specialisation that can best serve them in their future careers.
Architectural design subjects enhance a critical understanding of architecture as both a discipline with an existing body of knowledge and a set of practices that continuously challenge and add to that body of knowledge. Research is undertaken as a preliminary to design decision-making, during design and in reflection on design development. Architectural practice subjects prepare students for expanded practice in emerging media and markets, contemporary business practice and global economies and within challenging social, environmental, political and regulatory contexts.
1. No candidate, with less than 50% marks in aggregate, shall be admitted to architecture course unless he/she has passed an examination at the end of the new 10+2 Scheme of SSCE or equivalent with Mathematics as subject of examination at the10+2 level.
10+3 diploma (any stream) recognized by Centre / State Government with 50% marks in aggregate;
International Baccalaureate Diploma after 10 years of schooling with not less than 50% marks in aggregate and with Maths as compulsory subject of examination.
2. National Aptitude Test in Architecture administered by COA with valid score.
