Introduction

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) is an autonomous body that assesses and accredits higher education institutions (HEIs) in India. The NAAC's mission is to promote quality in higher education through regular assessments and accreditations, and to encourage self-evaluation, accountability, and innovation.

Here are some more details about the NAAC:

  • Funding: The NAAC is funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
  • Headquarters: The NAAC is headquartered in Bengaluru.
  • Accreditation criteria: The NAAC uses a set of criteria to assess HEIs, including curricular aspects, teaching and learning, research, infrastructure, student support, governance, leadership, and institutional values.
  • Grading system: The NAAC uses a seven-point scale with seven letter grades to evaluate HEIs.
  • Eligibility: Institutions must be approved by the UGC or MHRD to be eligible for NAAC assessment and accreditation.
  • Governance: The NAAC is controlled by a General Council (GC) and an Executive Committee (EC) made up of senior academics, educational administrators, and representatives from organizations like the UGC.
